I decided to re-run a few of my favorite "old" posts that are the heart of what Simple Home Managing is all about! Enjoy!
You know the saying "A mother's work is never done." Isn't that the truth? Even if you have your house organized, it still takes work to maintain it. Then there's the endless work like laundry, dishes and the list goes on and on. Often times it feels so monotonous, you have the laundry done one day and it starts piling up again the very next day.
You may even feel like a servant to your own family. Maybe it's not only okay but good to be a servant to your family, and by doing so you are not only serving your family but also God. That being a servant is a true honor and it might actually bring you joy rather than dread. Remember Jesus' act of washing the disciples feet? Such a lowly task preformed by God himself to show us his love. Are you not showing love for your family by serving them daily?
Once I realized that my daily monotonous work is actually a daily offering to God, it completely changed my attitude when it came to "you name it" around the house. A friend of mine said she is "trying to see the greatness in doing laundry...and by doing that, it makes it a little easier to conquer." Wow, what a different way to look at laundry!
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1
That is my favorite verse for motherhood. If done well it is quite an act of sacrifice. On those days that you have a pile of dishes or laundry and you just aren't "feeling it" remind yourself of who you are serving. I promise it will change your attitude and a little praise music will do wonders, too!
Thank you for your post. This is one of my BIGGEST struggles as a homemaker. I want to be doing something big, something seen by others as important, but the Lord brings me back to dishes, laundry and cleaning. I had never related Rom 12:1 to motherhood. It does make my offering of my service more important to God. But verse 12:2 also can tranform my view of motherhood. If we pattern our home after the world, we will not represent Christ, but we must allow the Holy Spirit to tranform how we see our ministry at home and the eternal implcations.
