Ikea Dining Area Makeover

I was feeling in need of a change in my kitchen dining area. But, buying a new table and chairs wasn't an option, so I wanted the most bang for my buck. This was the result, I wish I had a good before picture to show you, but I made the changes a couple of months ago before I started blogging.

My first order of business was to change the fabric covering the chair cushions. This is such an easy way to give your table a whole new look. I wanted a more modern look than I had before. My design "love language" is mid-century modern. I may have lost my mind, but I just fell in love with this fabric from Ikea. The price was right at only $7.00 a yard and it only took two yards to cover the four chairs.

After recovering the chairs, my traditional rug looked really out of place. Once again, I looked everywhere and ended up at Ikea. I found this colorful rug for only $39.00. It is a little smaller than my previous rug, but I think it works well. The colors work perfectly with the new chair cushions.

Of course, my traditional chandelier wouldn't work anymore. So after another trip to Ikea, I ended up with this modern pendant light fixture.  At $49.99 I thought that was a great deal. Isn't it funny how one little change of covering the chair cushions leads to a whole new room. I am happy with the results, if feels very happy and springy. Oh and doesn't my hubby's modern art look fun in the space? Those are priceless!

  4. Thanks so much, Rondell! I actually have about a 40 minute drive to our Ikea. It's probably a good thing it's not too close, that might get me into trouble!
